Blog Spots

I think I'm back to blog, but I'm not likely to be blogging at the same frequency or intensity as earlier in the year. Thanks for your patience over recent months.

Also back to blog is Make Tea Not War - yay!

New to me is the excellent Take Back the News, focusing on critiquing the reporting of rape and sexual violence.

On the other side of the political coin the Sir Humph's crowd have largely de-camped to No Minister after losing their old blog. Aaron Bhatnagar, who had his own blog for a while there and then contributed to SH, has a campaign blog for his punt at a council seat in Hobson.

Any other blog news I've missed?

Good to have you back, even if it is only sporadically, span.
Hope all is well (or at least better) with you. :)

can't say I feel the same about the Sir Humpty's gang though

Nice that you are back, Span. I like the discussion at your place.

As for the reincarnation of Sir H's, perhaps the frothers will all go there to play now....

I'm looking forward to seeing some feminist analysis again. Can you give me any recommendations for other NZ feminist blogs?

That's interesting to hear about the SirHumphs. When did this happen, do you know? I wasn't able to get into their site about 3-4 months ago, so I just assumed they'd carried out their oft-repeated threat to ban IPs of people who didn't agree with them and/or took the piss out of their loopiness. Perhaps not though.

I had some hilarious discussions at SirHumphs while it was going... I wonder if they're still clinging onto some of their favourite delusions... e.g. victory in Iraq is 'just around the corner' (still!)... Britain is one step away from Sharia law... the US and their allies don't use torture, or violate any principles of international law, including the Geneva Conventions... Iraq had a shedload of WMDs, but they sent them all to Syria just before the war started (as you do, when you're just about to be invaded)...

Ah, classics eh?! Aw shucks, now I'm getting all misty-eyed and nostalgic about them... sniff sniff.

We just got too popular for our own good, Cheezy - our hosting service took us down until we were willing to hand over a fat pay increase, which we weren't. Presumably they just wanted rid of us - beats me why they'd do that, I think we're just the cutest. Anyway, don't settle for nostalgia - you can get your familiar share of abuse over at our new site...

Thanks folks.

On other feminist blogs, from my blogroll there's Capitalism Bad, stanselen, and not really much else, for NZ. I keep an eye on Shakesville, Pandagon, Feministe, Feministing, Ilyka Damen, What We Said, Alas and a few others internationally but they tend to post so much that I can't really keep up.

As for SH (now NM), yes I find many of them very rabid but I do appreciate PM's posts, even when I don't agree with them. I hope he puts up again his one with the translation of the German woman's diary from after the fall of Berlin, that was powerful stuff.

Cheers for the invite, PM. I'm not sure I'll be visiting too often though - the thing is, towards the end of SHs I was getting the distinct feeling that my brand of playful irreverence wasn't exactly being received with the lightness of heart that was my intention - all the threats to ban me tipped me off about that! - and I don't blog in order to annoy people, so I might not take you up on your invitation, kind though it is.

Thanks anyway though - actually, I recall that you were one of the only commentators on that site who actually appeared to think about each issue at hand before passing judgement on it. Novel! Most of the others just seemed to reach into their back pocket for their 'aerosol of ideology' and sprayed it all over.

Your wish is my command, Span. Actually, I thought it had gone down with the ship, but I found a copy on my PC - had forgotten that I hadn't typed it directly into the web site cos the translations were a slow business.

I was never chuffed with the enthusiasm for banning people at SH Cheezy, but it wasn't my site. I understand your disdain for it though, and thanks for the kind words.
