it had to happen

you really can sell anything on TradeMe, including your vote...

the trader has rejected Destiny or National Front but is open to all others and bidding currently stands at a massive $2 (gosh even the Alliance could afford to buy this guy!) ;-)

I wonder how the Consumer Guarantees Act will protect the successful bidder? ;)

This is of course illegal, and both the seller and anyone bidding can face jail and being struck off the roll for engaging in a corrupt electoral practice.

well the listing has been withdrawn, but it was there - honest!

The listing was withdrawn but I would have purchased it in a wink.

I'm an American who plans to move to New Zealand, so government policy towards immigration directly affects me. But I can't vote.

It's made the news. The electoral authorities concur that it's illegal.

"there is absolutely no way anyone can check whether or not they voted along the lines they said they would"

Yeah, actually I think there is. It's called an Advance vote, which you're allowed to cast if
you don't expect to be in your own electorate on election day. You can do it by mail, so you
could show your marked ballot paper to the person who bought your vote before you send it off.

so couldn't you just give them your voting paper in that case anon?

i know that has happened in student elections, where one person has gone around and gathered up a whole lot of people's voting papers (with their consent, not that i did this), and voted for them.
