I'm not sure how I really feel about Irwin's death. I'm definitely sad for his family, it's tragic when someone goes young. As for his impact on conservation and people's connection with nature, it's been much pointed out that it was massive, but I do wonder if some of his methods will be seen in the future as unnecessarily riling to some of the animals. Of course for every animal he got angry or scared there were probably 100 (or more) he didn't, for all I know.
I don't really know enough about that kind of thing to judge, and the simple fact that he excited so many children about nature has got to be a Good Thing.
Pffft. He is disliked by many in the green lobby because he is not at all PC. How on earth you guys can judge that he scared animals and wasn't doing the right thing is beyond me.
He taught Aussies how to care for the environment, and to care for the animals that people had forgotten. He will be missed.
Span likes to think of herself as a mysterious interwab force for feminism and leftwingedness. However the truth is, as always, more mundane, what with blogging being the natural home of the frustrated and rant-inclined. Span is most certainly of their ilk. Sometimes she even talks about herself in the third person. We rest our case.

Oh dear, let them stop! Let them stop!
Steve Irwin's presence will be forever felt in this world -- certainly in my life. R.I.P.
