What about if someone asked you how long you've been married or in the relationship? 'Yes, we've been happily (civilly?) united for two years now'
I wonder how this will change with time - I think in the first little while people who have a civil union rather than a marriage may be reasonably forthright about it in some cases, but in ten years time people will just say they are married.
